A F*ck-It List

Welcome to my Heart 2 Heart Series featuring existential reflections of the narratives of my heart stories and those of my children and how these stories impact me, my wife, family & friends. Glad you have joined me on this introspective journey.

I never have like the idea of a “Bucket List.” Seems morbid. Focused on death.

My Daughter and I at Olympic National Park, May 2022

I like a “Fuck-It List” better. More adventurous. More about living and taking risks, rising to the challenge and growing.

As I prepare to go under the knife again for my second open heart surgery, I am fully anticipating and expecting that when all is said and done, I will rise from the table stronger and better than ever.

So, post surgery and the horrible recovery (horrible in that I am sure that having to rest and relax and recovery and lay around for six (6) to eight (8) weeks is going to damn near kill me as I am one hyper dude), I plan to start addressing items on my Fuck-It List.

We human beings like to do this kind of thing to ourselves: create an inspirational list that is designed to motivate us to live life. Like we don’t inherently know to DO THIS. We’re usually reminded of this list making task or spurred on to do it after a crisis event has rudely reminded us just how fragile life can be and how quickly we all can take our final bow as the orchestra fades, the lights go down, and the curtain drops.

I am and will always be, as long as I am above ground and vertical, a windshield driver upon the highway of life. I seldom look in the rearview or the sideview mirrors, very infrequently look back, very seldomly dwell on what is behind me.

I’m a planner.

I’m an adventurer.

I look for, seek, and hunt down what is possible, what could happen, the dramas and traumas and adventures of what is yet to come.

Thus, I have created a Fuck It List:

Taking my Kids to San Francisco and Spending the Night at Alcatraz.

Participating in my Son’s Graduation.

Flying in Business Class.

Bubbas and Fruitcakes National Book and Speaking Tour.

Building a New Kitchen.

Sailing the Greek Islands for a Month While Penning a New Book.

An African Safari with The Family.

Participate in The Amazing Race Television Show.

Fixing My Driveway.

Hire a Contractor to Create the Backyard of My Dreams.

Taking My Kids to the Sistine Chapel Then to Giolitti’s for Ice Cream.

Buying a Coffee Plantation on the Big Island and Opening Up a Coffee Shoppe.
